Support Fort Fermont

and preserve the history of the Maginot Line

Every donation helps to save an exceptional heritage.

For almost fifty years, passionate volunteers have dedicated their time, energy and expertise to preserving the Fort de Fermont, one of the most remarkable Maginot Line fortifications still open to the public. The association took over the site in 1977 to save it from neglect and pass on its history to future generations.

Today, the Fort de Fermont is much more than a simple historic monument. It is a place of memory, a living museum, a unique witness to the Second World War, and an important player in remembrance tourism in Lorraine.

However, preserving such heritage represents a daily challenge.

A fort, an underground city, a museum

Fort de Fermont is a colossal structure.

Beneath the surface lie several kilometres of tunnels, combat blocks, a power station, barracks, original equipment and a still-operational historic military train.

Outside, the 1940s Fighter Museum offers over 1,000 m² of exhibition space and one of France's finest collections of Maginot Line equipment and artillery used during the fighting of 1939-1940.

Every year, thousands of visitors come to discover this exceptional heritage, preserved thanks to the commitment of our volunteers.

A mission driven by enthusiasts

The Association des Amis de l’Ouvrage de Fermont et de la Ligne Maginot brings together over 50 volunteers from many different professions. Their objective is simple: to preserve, restore, and pass on this unique heritage.

Throughout the year, they intervene to:

  • restore the historic facilities ;
  • maintain the galleries and combat blocks; ;
  • preserve the museum's collections ;
  • refurbish technical equipment; ;
  • Welcome visitors ;
  • Transmit the story of the Maginot Line.

Without them, much of this heritage would have disappeared long ago.

Why do you need our help?

Le Fort de Fermont is an exceptional site, but also a particularly demanding one to maintain.

Buildings age, infrastructure is subject to the elements, and collections require constant monitoring.

Among the preservation projects are:

  • the renovation of the museum buildings; ;
  • the protection of historical collections ;
  • the restoration of military equipment ;
  • the refurbishment of technical equipment ;
  • the preservation of turrets and combat blocks ;
  • Improving the conditions for receiving the public.

Every intervention represents a significant investment for an association that relies primarily on the commitment of its volunteers.
